This was awful

Why would a writer set her story in the Regency Period and then say that she has decided "to forego conformity to...regency standards of decorum in favor of presenting strong...memorable characters"? As I tried to read this book, I concluded that she is too unfamiliar with those standards and with the language and terminology of the era, and that the so-called memorable characters were so crass and self-centered that they should be forgotten, not remembered.
This story is shallow, the language ranges from stilted ( in the first few chapters, the word "gaze" was used ad nauseum"), to half-correct (two characters were planning to "cry out" to break a betrothal, and the use of titles was far off the mark). Finally, the writer resorts to the frequent use of the F-word, and utterly loses credibility.
I confess I gave up after chapter 23. I just couldn't finish the final 12 or 13, and I saw little likelihood that those chapters would redeem this work.

deserves to be on the newyork times best sellers list

If you love romance then this is the perfect read. highly recommended. I read the preview on wattpad and then purchased it immediately on amazon. The story is a love triangle but extremely well written. Extremely happy ending and all the characters got their well deserved partners. And in addition to romance you dont want to miss the humor and the hilarious situations. I was actually having a hearty laugh while reading it. I wish you had few more chapters dedicated to jeremy's and cassie's childhood pranks and I would like to know how he actually spoils her in those early years when richard wasn't there. Please read the second book in the series as well , 'heaven sent the wrong one', it is equally good or may be even better. Thank you to the writer for entertaining us.

I first read this novel in wattpad, I didn't know that it was only a rough draft of the story but when I started reading it I had to know what was the ending. The very same moment, I registered myself in kindle and sign up in amazon just to purchase the book. Gosh! it is an amzing story! I can't stop turning the page because every moments seems to be unfathomable. This is unique, heart throbbing Romantic Story. I suggested it in my friends and they too love this!

I gave five stars rating since that's what my heart tells me. I can't lie!

A look into a legend's life

She was the husky-voiced rising star, and he was the grizzled veteran. While "Laurel Bacall: By Myself" covers much of Bacall's life, the centerpiece of it is her marriage to Humphrey Bogart. Here Bacall reflects back on her eventful life, relationship and how things are for her since.
Teenage Betty Bacall first saw Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca," and decidedly did not think he was sexy. But she started to think otherwise when she became a rising model-turned-starlet in Hollywood, a nervous budding It-girl. She met and befriended Bogart, then trapped in an alcoholic, abusive marriage with a woman he didn't love.
Their friendship quickly become a hidden love affair, despite their age difference. After his divorce from third wife Mayo, the two of them married and had two children, until Bogart's untimely death of cancer. Bacall chronicles her sorrow at his loss, and her life "by herself."
Bacall does a good job with this biography. She writes her own life story as a smart but insecure woman who isn't afraid to reveal her embarrassments and flaws. She comes across as a lot stronger than she believes herself to be, though she falters quite a bit in middle-age. At times Bacall may frustrate readers by being somewhat clueless about her own relationships and marriages (drinking and marital discord).
"By Myself" is not exceptionally written, however; the style is quite plain and lacks quite a few details. Bacall compensates somewhat with her dry, self-deprecating wit and forthrightness. There's a bit of lingering displeasure with some people like her ex-husband and Bogart's ex-wife Mayo, but Bacall keeps any negative feelings strictly reined in, and her discreet.
Don't expect lots of dirt and dish -- Bacall clearly isn't interested in talking about glitz and tawdry little affairs people around her were having. Nor does she name-drop a lot -- after all, why would Lauren Bacall have to? Rather she's interested in the solid, serious romance she and Bogie had, and the day-to-day life of acting, and her family with her adoring, very supportive mother and her children.
This is "old Hollywood" as people like to remember it. For fans of real love and romance, not to mention old Hollywood, this is a must-read.

A Personal Favorite

Neither judgmental nor defensive, "Lauren Bacall, By Myself" is the best autobiography I have ever read. Extensive and quite well-written, it covers so much ground that fans of the old Hollywood and Broadway days will doubtless love this book whether they particularly like Bacall herself or not. I liked the fact that she did not divide the book into chapters; life is not that way and reading this bio is just like stepping into Bacall's life and seeing it with your own eyes. Cleverly titled (am I the only one who senses a double meaning) and full of life, "Lauren Bacall, By Myself" is a literary achievement for Bacall and a great pleasure for any reader.

Triumph and Tragedy.. A Life revealed.

I have never considered myself a Lauren Bacall fan but having recently rewatched To Have And Have Not, her film debut, I became intrigued about her and Bogart so I picked up this book after reading such positive reviews here at Amazon.

Well, was I surprised. First this is a very well written autobiography that demonstrates a keen intelligence and a reflectiveness on the past that is truly admirable. It is also incredibly honest and not just a recitation of a Hollywood star's accomplishments.

From Bacall's youth in New York where she tried desperately to find a place in the theater to her ultimate return to the stage as a star after spending years in California as Mrs. Bogart and raising a family, every stage of her life is well examined.

Bogart emerges as a truly good guy, not perfect but clearly they were a great match despite the obvious age difference.

Some of the episodes in her life with Bogart have the added quality of capturing a period in Hollywood and the film industry that is long gone. Bacall isn't and doesn't need to be a name dropper but so many famous characters pop in and out of her story that it is a virtual who's who of 1940's Hollywood.

What I initally picked up as a casual read turned into something much deeper. Lauren Bacall , who I knew little about before reading this is a woman who I came to really like as a result of this book.

Well written and well worth checking out for filmfans, fans of Bogart or anyone interested in acting and theater and the celebrity life of the 40's and 50's.

About the Author
Gary Hall and Barry Reiss were professors at the Albany College of Pharmacy. For many years they also operated their own company offering review courses for the NAPLEX®, a company now part of Kaplan. They continue to be active in teaching review courses.

Lots of practice questions and answers which can be useful depending on how you study

Answer explanations could have been more complete

Great book to study for Naplex..

This is among the best books that I have read so far. I really liked different sections of topics covered for Naplex with format similar to Naplex. Best thing about this book is the CDROM that came with the book and has many questions in real Naplex like format with full explanations, why the answer is right or wrong. I have heard good things from many of my friends who have cleared Naplex and are working as Pharmacists. I would highly recommend this book to everyone serious about Naplex.

This book is great!!!

This book was really, really helpful in preparing me for the NAPLEX because it has plenty of questions to work on. Every question has an explanation in the back that you can look at and the authors even cite where the answer came from. The CD was also very helpful too. The book and the CD arrived in pristine condition about 3 days after I ordered it.
