Between book 13 and this one...what happened??

I've had the pleasure of going through the whole Ninjago Reader series with my six-year-old son. We have books 1-13, and we were both excited to get this book number 14 when it came out. I have read books 1-13 literally hundreds of times (literally!). They're enjoyable to read and my son loves them. But book number 14 is a bit of a letdown.
Here's the biggest issue, and the one that drives me the most crazy: There's a complete COMPLETE disconnect between what happened in book 13 and what is going on now in book 14. SPOILER ALERT: Book 13 ends with the Ninjago guys trying to escape from Chen's island, after rescuing Zane. Book 14 begins in a completely different story, where Cole has been turned into a ghost and Lloyd has his body taken over by some new foe that we've never even seen before. What!?!! What happened? How'd they escape the island from book 13? How did Cole get turned into a ghost? And what happened to Lloyd? There have been "jumps" in the timeline from book to book before, but nothing like this - especially considering how book 13 basically left off on a cliffhanger.
I still highly recommend these books for reading to your young kids, or for them to read themselves. They aren't educational, but they're just reading for fun, and getting kids to read for fun is a huge benefit. Even if the story jumps and skips over critical information.
